the guts of it

Gutsy is born from owner Kim’s belief in smashing good health —

using nourishing, natural superfood inspired drinks to enjoy great gut health and general wellbeing.

Kim and husband KP are naturally active people. Think romantic running dates, marathons and competing in the Coast to Coast. Then in their 30s, their bodies started to pack up. Kim’s monthly bloating started happening weekly, then daily.

Around the same time, KP began to suffer from malaise, turning grey after physical exertion, unable to keep up when running and needing a sleep to recover. They knew there was something seriously wrong.

Rounds of specialists and tests showed no identifiable cause, which was good news, but the problems remained. So Kim started researching different ways to improve things. She quickly discovered the importance of gut health and bacteria to our immune system and general wellbeing.

Years of reading, tinkering with different therapies, foods, supplements and potions followed. Along the way, three equally active children arrived, with a couple of inflammatory issues of their own.

In the end, it all came down to bugs. Specifically, the good bacteria in probiotics. They got the basics in place: eating lots of greens, drinking lots of water, good sleep and clean, unprocessed, high quality food. Kim added nutrients she knew were lacking in NZ soil, and introduced a big smattering of good bugs through fermented food and drink. They finally started seeing results. For the first time in a long while, Kim and her family were feeling good. Not just good - smashing good.

When Kim started making her own kombucha, she and KP switched their glass of wine most nights for one of her brews. Being the sober driver wasn’t so hard with a glass of celebratory booch in hand. Friends sampled and liked what they tasted, as well as feeling good about the health benefits. Like an ever-growing SCOBY, Kim’s great tasting solution to gut health grew, and eventually became Gutsy.

Kim’s the first to say that there’s always some balancing to do. Everyone’s journey to great health is unique and it’s a combination of lots of little changes that make a big difference. But she also knows how good that journey can feel, as well as taste.

Gutsy is how she’s sharing that passion.

Yah for Robyn!

Robyn jumped aboard the slow moving Gutsy train, to spark it up a little. Being a mum of four, (see practical and efficient in the dictionary) and having had a lot of experience in the hospitality industry, Robyn could see the potential and was passionate about the products. Robyn’s superpower is to inject joy into our gutsy products, and make sure they get out the door.
